Monotype Workshop by Guest Artist: Ivonne Adel-Bureos
January 29th, 2013MONOTYPE WORKSHOP
With Ivonne Adel-Bureos: February 2nd:11-3pm, $175
This introduction to experimental monotype printmaking will give you the opportunity to explore many different surfaces and materials used within traditional and non- traditional printmaking techniques; breaking the boundaries of what printmaking is usually considered as, and exploring new processes for the creative and curious. Whether you are a beginner or have experience in printmaking this workshop is designed to open a new door for all playful minds. All paper and materials will be provided.
Ivonne Adel-Bureos has been working and living in various cities across Mexico for the last 2 years; Mexico City, Acapulco, Guadalajara. Having worked and lived in many countries around the world, she returned to her birthplace to further explore her creative passions for printmaking. In mid 2011 she relocated from working at the Singapore Tyler Print Institute, as a print technician and instructor, to promote and create urban imagery and its semiotics within communities; the importance of our everyday objects. Ivonne works closely in collaborating with different artists from different creative backgrounds to exposing and promoting the importance of collaboration projects and awareness of the sense of community: printmakers, graffiti artists, graphic designers, painters, sculptures, muralists and new media artists.

Recap of de LaB workshop
October 31st, 2012http://designeastoflabrea.blogspot.com/2012/10/october-recap-halloween-printmaking.html
October Recap > Halloween Printmaking Workshop with NOMAD
On the Saturday before Halloween, 60 de LaBbers found the 6,000 foot semi-hidden studio of printmakers NOMAD studio, run by Damon Robinson in Frogtown.
Fueled by copious amounts of Halloween candy, we gathered in the workshop to learn about the process of printmaking and silkscreens, with step by step instructions and a tour through the darkroom. Robinson and his family had already prepared over 60 vintage album covers by painting them in various colors, leaving the design below barely visible.
One by one, every attendee was able to make their own Halloween-themed silkscreen print, choosing between a skull, the Creature from the Black Lagoon, and a Mexican wrestling mask. After pulling the paint through the silkscreen, the prints went under the heat to quick-dry and voila! A handmade, completely unique print. Towards the end of the afternoon, de LaBbers got creative, adding prints to the records themselves, to paper, and to even more albums.
Big thanks to Damon, his wife Lisa and their daughter for graciously letting us into their home/gallery and teaching us how easy it is to silkscreen. NOMAD is available for amateur printmakers to make their own designs. Contact Damon at http://www.nomadlosangeles.com/.
And stay tuned for discounts on future NOMAD printmaking workshops!
